かい【戒･誡】

〔いましめ〕 (an) admonition; (a) remonstrance; 〔仏教などの〕 a (Buddhist) commandment; 〖Skt〗 śīla.

●戒を授ける impart the Buddhist commandments to sb; ordain sb a priest [to the (Buddhist) priesthood]

・戒を保つ[破る] observe [break] the Buddhist commandments

・戒を受ける have the Buddhist commandments imparted to one; become a Buddhist priest [monk]; enter [be ordained to] the (Buddhist) priesthood.
